Symphony for the Devil

Here is a poem I submitted to the Joe Cleveland writing contest. Feel free to tell me what you think so I can pretend to listen. jk

Symphony for the Devil

Welcome to the show, you’re in for a treat;
Come I’ll perform for you a melody bittersweet.

You’ve bought your ticket like it or not,
Now go to the audience and find your spot

Sit down near the front there’s a seat just for you;
This is the place where your dreams will come true

Take a look around, you’ll see all your friends;
They’re all here to witness the fun that never ends

Now look to the stage, the show will soon begin,
The time has come for my symphony of sin

First comes myself, you’ve no doubt heard of me,
I wrote this show that you’ve come to see

Satan it seems is my earthly title,
When it comes to performance I have no true rival.

On violin is my evil and crafty friend lying,
Things always sound great when it’s the truth you’re denying

Over there on the organ is that handsome man greed,
He’ll gladly do whatever it takes to succeed.

Next comes cruel jealousy playing the flute,
Just give her some time and your mind she’ll pollute

You hear lust pound the drums, so deep and so low,
Though your mind takes no notice the noise continues to grow

Then on the oboe comes a man wheeling and dealing,
It’s that charming man thievery, but his friends call him stealing

And last but not least comes that trumpet blasting,
A noise so demonic its stench is everlasting

It’s my partner called murder who’s knocking them dead,
He’s so good at his job the tunes in all of our heads

Throughout the crowd every one is a fan,
We’ve all heard of his work upon the Son of Man

You hear the symbols clang and the drums roll,
I easily distract you and take possession of your soul.

As you plainly can see we use our tools well;
Just sing right along and we’ll see you in Hell
